How do you preserve rabbit pelts?
To store stretched and dried pelts, use moth crystals (paradichlorobenzene), not mothballs (naphthalene). Do not store in plastic. If you plan to tan the pelts yourself, you may freeze them after squeezing out the extra water, and accumulate several pelts to tan at once.
How do you dry rabbit skin?
Stir the rabbit skin in the water with a wooden spoon. This will allow the fur and skin to get thoroughly saturated with the water. Leave the bucket alone for 48 hours, stirring twice a day. Remove the rabbit skin from the solution, and squeeze it dry again.

It takes approximately 100 good, large pelts to make a quilt for a double bed and 50 to make a lap blanket. If you craft pelts for other projects, save the scraps and sew them together as they accumulate. Eventually, you’ll have enough for a small blanket.

After salting, roll the hide up and place on an incline to allow fluids to drain away from the hide. Wait approximately 12 hours. Unroll the hide and shake all of the wet salt off. Apply a new layer of fresh salt to the skin as explained above.

Mix Water and Gentle Detergent Hand- washing is the best choice for washing any type of faux fur item. For large coats and blankets, the cleaning can be done in a large plastic storage container or bathtub. Fill the sink or basin with cool water and 1–2 teaspoons mild detergent, such as Woolite or Studio by Tide.
